Happy Birthday

Well..today I turned 38. Only 2 short years from now, it will be the big 4-0. Funny how time just keeps moving along. When you are a kid, you hang out with your friends, play sports, go to school (which seems like forever), and waste time. As you get older (over 21), it seems like the slow mo button comes off and you are in normal speed. You do all your crazy antics and finish school (or not) and get a job in the real world. You still hang out with your friends on the weekends with no real responsibilities but you sense something different. Your pulse quickens and events start to pick up with greater speed. Now you are entering your thirties. You find the woman who you believe is the right one, have a child, and buy a house. Now the normal play button on the tape recorder of life is busted and fast forward engages. You are rushing to get to kids school concerts, plays, and sports. But you have to fight to find that moment. Long ago there was plenty of it but now only scattered fields of peace. You are now working hard to take care of everything else. The mortgage needs to be paid, bills have to be paid, and taxes have to be paid. Everything is getting paid other than your own wants and needs. Not just the superficial things like cars, clothes and material items but thoughts, dreams, aspirations, what may have been or what may still be. But there is one problem. You hear something. A noise which you never heard before. A noise that seems alien to your soul and, in fact, to the core of your inner self. A noise that by nature, we all panic at the sound of. A noise which says "sorry but you had your shot". And that's the scary part. We don't even realize what the noise is or what it' s true intentions are until it is too late. We have agents of this noise in our homes, offices, cars and everywhere we go. Hell, we even wear them on our wrists. The noise is time and it has just about run out.

happy birthday......

Race Day!!!

Talladega. It is a name that strikes fear into the hearts of some and hope into the minds of others. It is a track that you can not possibly predict who will finish where. That is why it is the great equalizer. No matter what your skill level is, rookie or veteran, this one race can make your season something to cheer about. Hopefuly, it wil live up to it's name and give a victory not to the fastest driver, but the one with the best car handling, bullet dodging, nerves of steel in the land.

Last Day of School

Well, I guess summer has officially begun now. My son had his last day of school yesterday and he seemed pretty happy about it. The strange thing is that not only does he know who is teacher will be next year, but he knows who his classmates are as well. Normally, this is no big deal when you have one class for one grade. But he is in one of 3 classes for his grade. They held a pre-first day of school yesterday because they mix the kids from different classes every year. A good idea I think because it enables him to meet other friends plus keep the existing ones.

Father's Day

Here I am sitting at home writing this blog while my 9 year old son is setting next to me playing Call of Duty( World at war) on the Xbox 360 while my wife is out shopping. The game itself is a little violent (rated M because of the war like violence) but in a strange way I think it helps him understand the horrors of war. He made me 2 cards for this Father's day, One of them was just a regular one which was signed by all of his classmates at school (very cool), and the second was one were he substituted different adjectives for my name and title (dad). I thought it was pretty cool that he did this and of course I received one special coupon inside that card. The coupon read "for whatever you want me to do for you". he was very quick to note that it was "good for one time only". My only question is do I use it now selfishly to have him help me clean the garage or take out the trash or do I save it for when he is a teenager were it can have a lot more of a positive impact on his life? Hopefuly if I save it for 5 or 6 years, he wil still honor it because I do not see an expiration date on it.
